Hello!

1. Author and title

2. One-sentence summary of why your book was banned

3. One or two sentences explaining why you personally chose this book

4. What page you're on right now, and what you see as the book's level of reading difficulty (easy and fast, tricky and slow, etc).

5. One big question that you have about this specific book

Please post this by Sunday night (I would recommend taking care of it before the Superbowl). Have a great weekend!

  1. My books title is Friday night lights by H.G. Bissinger and it is banned because of profanity and racism. I chose this book because it was about football and I was very interested in reading it. I also chose it because it is a best seller and a lot of people have recommended for me to read it. Right now I am on page 73 and the books has a medium but fast difficulty. The books difficulty is easier for those who know the game of football and like football. If you don't like football, then I don't recommend reading this book. One question I have is why does the author just talk about one characters past and not other important players?

  2. My book is Called the Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank. The reason this book was banned for being highly sexually and racially offensive. The reason i chose this book is because i wanted to see what life for a Jewish person was like back then when Hitler was trying to wipe the entire Jewish race from existence. Another reason is Because as i watched a movie called freedom Writers somewhere towards the end of the movie they read the Diary of Anne Frank and i asked my parents so many questions on what happened to the Jews in concentration camps. write now im on page 32 and the level of difficulty reading is probably very easy she was in tenth grade when she died just a few weeks from turning sixteen. One big question i would ask the author is what is was like from her point of view, was it easy to hide behind a hidden door in such a small cramped space. I have one more question and that is what was the concentration camp like was it easy to deal with the torture was it easy to deal with being under feed or was was it terrifying not knowing wether you would live or die. when

  3. My book is called "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. This is a banned book because it uses mild language a lot but since this book was written in the 50's, it was considered very offensive and vulgar. I chose this book because I have heard that it was a good book, but that it was especially bad. I also learned that the person who killed John Lennon was "under the influence" of this book. I am on page 42, but this is so far a fairly slow read. The beginning read much like he was scatterbrained and was a little hard to follow. One of the big questions I have about this book is why did the author make this book so depressing? This kids life sucks hardcore and it seems too sad for the time period in which it was written.

  4. My book title is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This book was banned because of racist implications toward the government, and using the "N" word 48 times out of 281 pages. I personally chose this book because it was one of my mom's favorite books and she suggested that I read it. I was also very intrigued that it was a true story about overcoming racism in one of Americas darkest times. I am currently on page 58 and I have found the book to be a pretty easy read. Although racism is a very difficult subject to read about and this book can be very depressing, Harper Lee does a great job of letting the reading inside the text and making me feel like I am apart of the story. My main question I have about this book so far is why does she use so much dialogue? I feel that dialogue is a great way to make the reader feel like they are apart of the story, although I feel that Harper Lee may have overused this technique.

  5. My book is The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. This book was banned in countries like Lebanon and Vatican City for its bed expression of Christianity. It talks of the Catholic Church's horrible and violent past in a negative manner which some people find offensive. I chose this book because it had great reviews and I have been encouraged to read it. I saw it on a list of banned books and I immediately took advantage of the opportunity. I am currently on page 75. I find this a relatively easy read that has a couple of confusing sections that I had to re-read to get a full understanding.I really wonder if the secret 'cults' they speak of really exist?

  6. My book is called The Universe in a Single Atom by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. My book was not necessarily banned but it very well could be because it talks about how religion and science can converge. This is a shaky topic because science and region are almost opposites which can offend lost of people. I choose this book because I find that the teaching of the Dalai Lama are very interesting and I wanted to learn more on his thoughts about modern technology and science. In addition I have done research on His Holiness for a world religions project I had to to do so I had plenty of background knowledge of the Dalai Lama in the first place and the teaching he spreads. I am currently on page 38 and this book is a pretty easy read sometime I have to slow down and re-read some parts. On big question I have is how would it be like to grow up through life without hardly any interaction of technology like the Dalai Lama did as a child.

  8. My book is called The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. My book was banned due to the fact that it has many strong racial remarks in it. I have heard many great things about this book from family and friends. Also there were many great book reviews of it, so when I saw it on the list I knew which book I would be reading. Right now I am on page 34 of my book and I would call it an easier quick read for the most part. One question I have is why does Tom not learn his lesson about getting in trouble?

  9. My book is In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. This book was banned because the murder of this family is so descriptive and brutal. I choose this book because i wanted a challenging book. I'm on page 20 and its slow and tricky for the most part. One question i have is why did the author(Truman Capote) want to wright about this brutal murder?

  11. My book is The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. My book was banned because of language, content, and mostly because it challenged the freedoms that teenagers have, mostly because the main character sets a bad example. I personally chose this book because it is considered a classic and because I think that it is very easy to relate to the main character, especially being about the same age. I am currently on about page 45 (it's a little hard to tell with my kindle) and I would say this book is an easy read. My one question is this: Has the struggle of teenagers stayed exactly the same over the course of 60 years? The book was published in 1951, but the main character seems like he could be a teenager in 2013 based on his actions and the things that he goes through.

  12. The title of my book is "It" by Stephen King. This book was banned because there is a lot of bad language and there is a scene where children have sex. I chose this book because I've seen part of the movie and it was very intriguing, it made me want to watch more. I was told by many people the book is very good and way better than the movie. I am currently on page 51 and I would say this book is very long to read. There are a lot of words on one page and many pages. What I have to ask about this book is what is the point of having the gay couple die? I feel there isn't much importance in that part and the message would have been just as clear if the sexual orientation of the men who died wasn't emphasized.

  13. My banned book is called "The Martian Chronicles". This book was mostly banned for its science fiction setting. I chose this book because I like to read book that are out of this world, like superpowers. I am on page 43 I would say this is a easy book to read, but there are some word that I do not know. A question I have would be why did the author make the aliens come to our world instead of us coming to there planet?

  14. My book is "The Call of The Wild" by Jack London. My book was banned because it is violent and it was criticized of glorifying or condoning animal abuse. I chose my book because it was recommended to me and it sounded interesting. I am on page 27 and it is pretty easy. One question I would have is why Jack London decided to write this book?

  16. My book is called "Operation Dark Heart" by Lt.Col. Anthony Shaffer of the U.S. Army. This book was banned by the DOD, who took the first 10,000 copies and ordered them to be destroyed. The DOD said that if this book was to be published then the Lt.Col. and the editor must black out the parts in the book that was deemed classified information. I choose this book because I like military based books and the fact that there is classified information in the book. At this moment I am on page 20, and one question that I could ask the Lt.Col. I would ask "Why did he risk his credibility by divulging top secret information?

  17. My book Alice's Adventures in wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The book was banned by the Chinese government for giving animals human like characteristics.I chose the book because I have seen the movie but never read the book so I thought it would be a fun read. Right now I am on page 21. I would ask Alice what compelled her to jump down the hole just to follow a rabbit?

  18. My book is called "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll. It was banned in China because it has talking animals which was said to place animals on the same level as humans. I chose this book because a friend saw it on the list and recommended to to me, saying that it is good. In my opinion at least, this book is a fast, easy read. A question I have about the book is, why did the animals prepare for Alice's arrival with the cake and liquid that made her change sizes, but then act surprised when she shows up?

  19. The title of my book is "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. This book was banned because of the anti-family and anti-religion plus it was also banned in Ireland for it's language. I personally choose this book because it looks at the future which is present day to day. It was written in the 30's and is talking about thousands of people that are identical twins all from one egg. I am on page 21 and it is a easy read. If i could ask the author one question it would be why can't you get like 32 thousands out of one egg?

  21. The title of my book is "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London. This book was banned because it carries a dark tone, and the mature concepts explored in the story contain numerous scenes of cruelty and violence. There were a couple of reasons why I chose this book but the main reason was because my uncle gave this book to me when I was born and I saw that there was a wolf on the cover and I am very interested in wolves. Right now I am on page 11 and it is starting out kind of slow but I have a feeling that it will start to evolve pretty fast. The main question i have so far is, what inspired the author to write this book?

  22. My book is "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown. It was banned for being violent and having racism towards the indians. I chose this book because I think that the indians a pretty interesting and I thought it would be fun to read about the fights between the white men and the indians. I am only on page 10 and it has started out a little slow but is picking up. The reading level easy sometimes. What made the author write this book?

  23. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. My book was banned due to the negative connotation of blacks, the book is viewed as being racist. I choose to read this book because I thought it would be interesting to learn about a troublesome boy. I think that I might be able to relate or relate someone I know to this mischievous character. I am on page 47 in the book and it is a slow reading book which makes it tricky because the words are small and the pages are full and long. One question I have about the book is why Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) choose to write about a boy? Was he writing about his own childhood?

  24. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. This Book was banned because of the connection between a main character and a religious figure. This main character is the Lion that is also mentioned in the title. There are several different similarities between the lion and Jesus. One of which is both of these characters rise from the dead, and the book is said to create unruly youth. Currently I am on page fifty of this novel, and I cannot be happier with this choice. I choose this book because it was my uncles favorite book for a long time, and my brother gave this book great marks. The one big question that i have with this book is, how do the witch and the lion share some of the same characteristics but are very different from each other.
