  2. Now that we have read all of the first chapter, what does the first chapter title, "The Hearth and the Salamander," symbolize or represent?

    Replies
    1. I think the Hearth represented Montag and the Salamander represented Clarisse.

  3. why does Mildred kill random animals such as rabbits and dog?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that this society is so different that many people just stopped caring for animals and just care for yourself. In the passage, she says "It's fun in the country. You hit rabbits, sometimes you hit dogs." This just seems like a past-time to them.

  4. Why do you think Montag and Mildred decide to read all the books and read the bible especially when people are coming soon?

  6. Why do you think this book was poorly received by the general public? Why was it burned?

    1. I think it brought up a conflict with our government and some may say it promoted communism.

  7. Do you think that Montag will try to hide the books again?

    1. I think that Montag will hide the books again, if not use the books latter for something else like give the books to the public.

  8. Do you think that Mildred has ever read a book?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No i don't think that anyone has read a book, unless they are much older such as Faber.

      Delete
    2. No because she is so conformed to the everyday life the government has already set for everyone in this society all she does is watch t.v. and talk about t.v. if she has read a book I think she wouldn't be as ignorant as she is.

      Delete
    3. I think the government has completely brainwashed her and she would never even think about reading a book.

  9. "This is a trap! I can't talk to just anyone on the phone." Pg.76 Does the professor have any books? If yes does the government know he does?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I feel that the professor has to have books he spent his whole life teaching things about books and literature there is no way he could just give up his life's work pretty much.

    2. "An hour of monologue, a poem, a comment, and then without either acknowledging the fact that Montag was a fireman, Faber, with a certain trembling, wrote his address on a slip of paper. "For your file," he said" (Bradbury 75). Faber obviously knows that he is under suspicion, and it is likely that he has books. Montag, for some reason, does not decide to make a file to watch Faber at the firehouse.

  10. Why does Montag go to see Faber?

    ReplyDelete

    1. To help him make a copy of the Bible and to help him understand what he is reading.

  11. In the book Mildred says "Don't start that again". do you think that Montag has had Books before and is trying to read them again?

    ReplyDelete
  12. On page 64 when it says, " It's fun out in the country. You hit rabbits, sometimes you hit dogs." Do they think running over rabbits and dogs are fun?

  13. " Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does that word mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores." - Faber pg.75. This is right after Faber tells Montag that the meaning he is seeking isn't necessarily in books, but also in existing media like the T.V and radio. However people don't demand this knowledge anymore and the effect of that is no need for books. What made people's interest in books fade away completely?

    1. The society that they live in is very fast paced. Nobody takes the time to look around, they're all off zooming around without stopping. In a world where everything moves so fast, nobody has the time to read a book. And if you think about it, our society is a little bit like that, apart from the fact that we don't go 100 miles an hour down the freeways. When was the last time you sat down and read a book that wasn't for school?

  14. On page 77, " Does the White clown love you?" Who is the white clown?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In this part of the story, Montag is asking Mildred the same questions that Clarisse asked him. He asks Mildred if the TV shows she watches in the parlor love her and makes her happy. The White Clown must be a character in one of the shows.

  15. Do you think that Montag has always had the ability to think more than the average person? On page 74 and 75, Montag describes a meeting with a strange man in a park, where he starts to think about literature: "Again he found himself thinking of the green park a year ago. The thought had been with him many times recently but now he remembered how it was that day in the city park when he had seen that old man in the black suit hide something, quickly, in his coat."

    1. I think that everyone has the ability to think about the same things but Montag goes and does what he feels is right instead of keeping it inside and going with the flow of things.

  16. Where do people put their faith in this day and age? Is there still religion and the thoughts of greater beings?

    1. They do not think about anything ever so I do not think that they ever think about religion, or even know what it is.

    2. There cant be very much religion due to no books.

    3. I think the whole purpose of this society is for people to have their own beliefs and not follow what someone else tells you to believe in a book.

  17. pg 77, " Does your family love you, love you very much, love you with all their heart and soul, Millie?" why is Montag asking this question in 3rd Person?

  18. In the Book Montag Says " It might Be the last in this part of the world". So do you think that only this palce has laws against books.?

    ReplyDelete
  19. On page 73, "It was dead but it was alive. It could see but it couldn't see. You want to see this snake? It's at the Emergency Hospital.." why does Mildred not really care about her OD?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why does Montag not really take his marriage seriously? Is marriage not a huge deal in their society?

  23. On page 73 in the middle of Montag's argument with Mildred it says, "The bombers crossed the sky and crossed the sky over the house, gasping, murmuring, whistling like an immense, invisible fan, circling in emptiness." Are these jets symbolic? If so, what do they represent?

  24. What does a hearth or a salamander represent in the book?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks for stealing my question, but I think it represents something new being reborn from the ashes of the old. A hearth is a fireplace and salamanders were known to crawl from logs in fires and they were called fire lizards that's what salamander means if translated from Latin. So, with that information I derive that the salamander coming from the ashes of the old could be Montag realizes that his life has been a lie and that he has to do something.

  25. What does Faber tell Montag about books?

    ReplyDelete
  26. On page 77, when it says "I'm numb, he though. When did the numbness really begin in my face? In my body? The night I kicked the pill bottle in the dark, like kicking a buried mine." I think the numbness represents the influence of his government on their feelings. I think that ever since Mildred tried to commit suicide and just forgot about it, it is making Montag think that nothing is bad. If suicide isn't even memorable for his wife, then what is? It seems like in this society, nothing affects people. Everyone is numb.

  27. Why is religion becoming less important in our society?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think because we americanize religion you can ask just about anyone what there religion is and they will tell you but the majority can't answer WHY they believe in that religion. In america religion still plays an important role look on our currency it says "in god we trust".

      Delete
    2. I think it is because America is suppose to represent freedom and we dont want to force religion on people and make them believe something they dont. With that freedom of choice religion will become less important for many people.

    ReplyDelete
  30. On page 64 Montag says "Its only a step from not going to work today to not working tomorrow, to not working at the firehouse ever again." Is he stating that if he doesn't go to work today he will never go again? Is it a sign that he is quitting in the soon future?

    ReplyDelete
  31. On page 65 Mildred said "And proud of it." Referring to her happiness what does her happiness signify? that line that she said was almost isolated out.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Since Montag and Mildread's marriage isn't going too well do you think she will go behind Montag's back and turn him in for having books?
